About Us
OUR HISTORY:
W.A.L.C was set up in 1998 under the guidance of the Federation of Disability Sports Organisation and the National Autistic Society . Later that year it was transfered offically to club status and the Wakefield Autism Leisure Club was born. Over the years it has grown and we have had to expand our age range to include a junior section, and the club has naturally progressed to include young people with other learning disabilities/difficulties.
MEMBERSHIP:
New members are always welcome and any enquiries should be made to the Club Coordinator.
Our members start at the age of 8 years, we currently have no upper age limit. We encourage siblings of our members to also participate in our activities.
We have a yearly membership fee of £12.00 per person and each activity has a weekly session fee.
VOLUNTEERING:
We welcome enquiries from anyone who is interested in working with a Charity. If you feel you can spare a couple of hours a week then please email us for a volunteer application form. We also have a limited number of volunteer placements for young people (16yr-18yr) who want to gain experience of working with a charity or sports organisation. Please email wakefieldautismleisureclub@gmail.com for more information.
FUNDING:
The club relies solely on grants and donations from public and private organisations. Members pay a nominal fee each session and parents, carers and volunteers actively raise money through raffles, street collections and Annual Fayre's e.t.c.
DONATIONS:
The Autism Club is always grateful for any donation. Please contact the Club Coordinator if you feel you can help our worthwhile cause.
